Thomas Cook: an icon of the Dominant Historiography in the Tourism

A sociological research on the prejudice on the tourist phenomenon in History

ABSTRACT

The present article points out a discussion on the hegemony of the English historiography for the world in what refers to the role played by Thomas Cook in the field of the world tourism. For that, we picked activities accomplished by the character on the field of mass tourism and its social and political consequences related to the social stratification at the time. We pondered the reasons of the selective character of the Latin-American history in submitting itself to the process of forgetfulness and denial of the values of our idiosyncrasy, inducing us, in a violent way, to cultivate precepts strange to our culture as if the tourism did not exist in the national history. We discussed that the phenomenon of the tourism is shown since the beginning of the civilization, when the work category appears with the need of leisure, therefore, that activity can be better developed in some countries, as leisure, leisure and tourism due to the work relationships.
