RESUMEN
En Ecuador la práctica del Judo comenzó en una época tardía en relación con otros países del continente. Con este primer artículo se pretende contribuir con una mayor información sobre los inicios del Judo en varias provincias del Ecuador: Guayas, Azuay, Pichincha, Los Ríos y El Oro, todas en la Región Litoral, causal aparente que condiciona que sean los sitios de introducción en el país de este arte marcial devenido deporte. Se hace una recopilación de los principales pasajes que permitirán, posteriormente, una reconstrucción lo más acertada posible de la historia del Judo en Ecuador, desde sus primeros años, de manera lo más objetiva, ajustada y fiel posible a la realidad histórica del Judo ecuatoriano a partir de la información disponible sobre esta actividad. En este trabajo se mencionan los iniciadores reconocidos, fechas y primeros clubes Judo fundados en esas provincias, así como los primeros eventos de carácter interprovincial y sus resultados.

SUMMARY
In Ecuador, the practice of the Judo began in a late date with regarding to other countries of the continent. With this first article we try to contribute with an essential information about the beginnings of the Judo in several provinces of the Ecuador: Guayas, Azuay, Pichincha, Los Ríos and El Oro, all in the Coastal Region, apparent reason which determines the introduction of this martial art evolved into a sport in those very places in the country. There is done a compilation of the main passages that will allow, subsequently, a reconstruction as guessed right as possible of the history of Judo in Ecuador from its first years from the available information about this activity, in a way which should be the most objective, exact and faithful to the historical reality of the Ecuadorean Judo. In this paper we mention the recognized pioneers, the dates and the first Judo clubs founded in these provinces, as well as the first events of interprovincial character and its results.
