SELF-ESTEEM, MEASUREMENT BEFORE AND DURING THE PANDEMIC

ABSTRACT

The current context of uncertainty has highlighted the need for timely and preventive information, which allows decision-making and actions to carry out an adequate confrontation of the future that awaits students. The present study measures the low, medium, and high levels of global self-esteem and its general, social, family and school dimensions in two times, before and during the pandemic (now), using a New Version of the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory for Adults (NV-CSEI-C), which asks each participant to think of a "before" the pandemic and a "now" and to give two answers in a single application, through a quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study in two samples of undergraduate students in Education from two public educational institutions in Mexico.. The results are encouraging, both groups obtained better scores at present; however, the group of Hidalgo showed greater progress than the group of Tabasco, although neither of the two groups had enough differences to move up from the average level of global self-esteem. The four dimensions showed variation among individuals and groups, highlighting the self-analysis of the students as a result of the application of the modified instrument. Complementary studies are recommended, to continue with the measurement of self-esteem in university students and follow-up of the participants.
