Anna J. Schwartz (1915-2012)
Estudia
en el Barnard College (B.A. en 1934), en la Columbia University, (M.A. en 1935)
en la que también obtiene el doctorado en 1964. Es profesora de economía en la City University of New York (1967-1969) y en la New York University. Entre otros
honores, presidió la Western Economic Association, (1987-88).
Sus
trabajos se centraron en la economía financiera, su regulación, la transmisión
internacional de la inflación, los ciclos de negocios, el papel de los gobiernos
en la política monetaria, el comportamiento de los tipos de interés, la
deflación y los sistemas monetarios.
Sus trabajos más conocidos son
los que realizó en colaboración con
Milton Friedman, analizando el
papel del dinero en los ciclos especialmente en el libro "A
Monetary History of the United States, 1867–1960" en el que
culpa de la Gran Depresión a los cambios en la política
monetaria de la Reserva Federal. También publicó su artículo
"Money and Business Cycles" y los libros "Monetary Statistics of
the United States in 1970" y "Monetary Trends in the United
States and the United Kingdom: Their Relation to Income, Prices,
and Interest Rates, 1867–1975 in 1982"
