 George A. AkerlofGeorge Akerlof nació en New Haven, Conneticut. Se graduó en la Universidad de Yale en 1962 y obtuvo el doctorado en el MIT en 1966. Es profesor en la University of California en Berkeley. También ha sido docente en Harvard University y en la London School of Economics. Ha trabajado en el Indian Statistical Institute, el Consejo de Asesores Económicos del Presidente de los EEUU, el Federal Reserve System (1977-78) y en la Brookings Institution.

Ha obtenido el Premio Nobel de Economía del año 2001, junto a A. Michael Spence y Joseph E. Stiglitz "por sus análisis de los mercados con información asimétrica".
