2.3.2. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.

Extracurricular activities developed according to the Vocational Study Group.

The Vocational Study Group was composed according to our possibilities and the time we had. We selected the days of the meeting.

Eight students integrated it and the name of it was EL CARIBE ENTRE NOSOTROS.

The activities developed were See annex #7

 Visit a library.

 Visit a museum.

 Make survey.

 Visit families of immigrants.

Before that, we made a list of books that the students could read in Spanish taking into account the level of the students and we talked about the objective of the group and also about the tasks.

The following step was, to apply a survey to compile information about the immigrants.

These activities contributed to increase the students’ interest towards the Anglo Caribbean region.

For example:

On April 23rd they developed an activity in which they presented some maps about the Anglo Caribbean families and they were able to talk about these families and give the real direction s where they are living now. This activity helped the students to acquire more vocabulary and to combine the English with other subjects.

They also made a festival, there they and some immigrants found clothes from different Caribbean countries and the students dressed up with the clothes and talked about these in Spanish.

On May 11th a Jamaican singer died, Bob Marley, and in this year they made a meeting. In this meeting the students listened songs of Bob, one of the songs WOMAN NO CRY were organized in piece of paper, the others were listened, although the students most of the time liked the rhythm of the music very much. These activities help the students to acquire some elements of Anglo Caribbean music and culture.

The following exercise is entitled KNOWING AMANCIO.

The teacher selects Unit 3.

COMMUNICATIVE FUNTIONS: give and ask directions.

OBJECTIVE: The students should be able to give directions according to the map.

The teacher gives some instructions to the students.

Example: Give the correct direction.

a) Edna White.

For this you have to answer according to a given map.

This exercise is going to be developed as a group work activity.

First the students have to observe the map, then they have to answer the items.

The teacher can explain any difficulty at the time of given directions.

This exercise is entitled LET´ S EAT.

For these exercise the teacher gives some instructions to the students.

Example: You arrive at a Caribbean Food Restaurant and the waiter gives you the menu. Act out the situation.

The students, divided in pairs, have to read the menu and decide what they are going to have for eating and drinking.

First the teacher reads the menu and explains any difficulty.

To act it out the situation the teacher prepares a table to set this in front of the classroom.

Example: one student asks what the other would like to eat or drink.

This exercise helps the students practice the already known vocabulary. It also helps to have the students communicate orally among themselves.
