Thank you so much for your gracious invitation to contribute to the volume commemorating the 100th aniversary of Ferran Valls i Taberner.

I shall be happy to contribute an article on recent developments in the area of the constitutional law of civil liberties and civil rights in the United States. The tentative title of the article is “The Constitutional Protection of Individual Rights in the United States: An Analysis and a Critique”. I trust that this will be acceptable.

I shall send you a copy of the piece by February 5, 1989, and I shall be mindful of the guidelines outlined in your letter.

This is a response to your letter of July 28 requesting submissions for consideration for publication in Papers in Public Law and Comparative Political Science, one of the volumes in honor of Ferran Valls i Taberner.

The enclosed paper was presented to the Southwest Political Science Association Annual Meeting in Houston, Texas in Spring 1985, where it was well-received.

I have continued to do research in this field and intend a book basically expanding some of these themes.

I have published articles on socialist political theory in Polity and Social Theory and Practice and have a forthcoming book entitled Marx’s Theory of the Transcendence of the State (New York and Bern: Peter Lang Publishing, 1989).

I hope you will find this paper suitable for publication. Thank you and good luck on your project.
