My dear colleague,

I confirm receipt of your letter of March 2nd and write with reference to your query concerning the teaching of history of law and political economy at our universities. The general frame-programme of teaching at the law & administration faculties (law schools) in Poland -with regard to basic subjects- is a central one (established by the Ministry of Education) and even if particular universities may introduce certain changes, these are not important.

The history of law is divided into three subjects, which are considered as basic subjects, namely:

- the history of Polish law (it covers the history of state and law of Poland),

- the general history of state and law (it covers the history of state and law particularly of the European countries and the USA)

- the history of political and legal doctrines; this subject may be described as the history of political and legal thought starting from the ancient East (China, India, Egipt, etc.) through the philosophers of Greece and Rome, Middle Ages and Modern Times and ending with the contemporary political and legal doctrines.

Lectures on the history of Polish law are in the first academic year (60 hours plus 45 hours of class exercises).

Lectures on the general history of state and law are also in the first academic year (75 hours plus 45 hours class exercises).

Lectures on the history of political and legal doctrines are the third academic year (45 hours plus 30 hours of class exercises).

The political economy is not considered as a basic subject in the central programme of law studies. At our University lectures on political economy are in the first academic year (30 hours plus 45 hours of class exercises).

The intramural studies of law at Polish universities last 5 years (10 terms).

I shall send your shortly a copy of my study Maritime law in the making . It seems to me that this theoretical study may be found interesting esp. by the readers in the Latin-American countries wanting to gain more influence in the law-making process on the international level.

Querido Manolo Peláez:

Antes de irme unas semanas cerca del mar, tras la envidia de ver que fechas el Orlandis 70 en Benalmádena-Costa, termino y te envío los folios pedidos en homenaje a Lalinde .

Me llegaron, ayer, el citado Orlandis y el tomo del Derecho constitucional europeo , ambos de mi interés. Precisamente tengo algunas cosas sobre derechos individuales de una frustrada edición española de las Carte dei diritti de Battaglia... pero tengo tanto trabajo delante que no encuentro huecos.

Te supongo preparando el viaje a Bolonia. Yo no voy. Estuve hace poco... En conmemoración trasladada a Madrid nos dieron una charla sobre españoles en Bolonia de cierto prof. Fioldi, flojilla y un documental donde más que a Bolonia se ve a su rector Mónaco . Siguió una exposición gastronómica accesible pero poco digerible. No sabía que lo típico boloñés eran los “faglioli bianchi” y los “pissilli” muy engrasados. Pensaba siempre en los “tagliatelli verdi”. También hubo mozzarella y chianti.

En fin, feliz vacación y un gran abrazo
