[Nº 145] Carta de Herbert Wagner, catedrático de Derecho Romano de la Universidad de Marburgo, a Manuel J. Peláez

Marburg, 30 de septiembre de 1987

Dear Colleague:

Late, on occasion of the SIHDA-Session in San Sebastián, 24th September, I have received the early asked improvements of my contribution to the “Estudios” . Now I have written a revised manuscript, and I beg your pardon, if I just entreat you to take the beter, the revised formulations of my contribution for the “Estudios”. Nearly no improvements you will find in the foot-notes.

With many thanks for your kindness and best regards,

Yours faithfully

[Nº 146] Carta de Robin Evans-Jones, profesor de Derecho Romano de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Aberdeen, a Manuel J. Peláez

Aberdeen, 2 de octubre de 1987

Dear Mr. Peláez,

Thank you very much for your letter enquiring about our courses in Roman law and Scottish legal history. In Roman law we offer taught courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. At undergraduate level there are two courses: (1) a general introduction to legal institutions following the Institutes of Justinian; (2) a more advanced course in which one area of the law, either the Lex Aquilia or sale, is studied in depth. At postgraduate level our taught Master’s degree also has a Roman law component. I have enclosed a leaflet which gives full details (Taught LL. M). We also offer degrees by research alone (Ph. D. and LL. M.) Aberdeen has probably the best Roman law library in Britain.

Scottish legal history is taught only at undergraduate level. (1) The basic course traces the development of institutions such as parliament and the courts from the 12th.-18th. Century. In addition one area of law is studied in depth; for example, treason; (2) a more advanced course is also offered called “Natural law and 18th. C. Scottish legal Thought” a short summary of which I enclose.

I hope that this is of help to you. It is not entirely clear from your letter what you require; whether for example you would be interested in studying here. If so it is possible to attend courses on a non-graduating basis. This is relatively inexpensive and is often done by foreign law students who wish to improve their English. If you require further information please contact me again.

Yours sincerely,

Robin Evans-Jones (firmado)

[Nº 147] Carta de Peter W. Edbury, del Departamento de Historia de la Universidad de Cardiff, a Manuel J. Peláez

Cardiff, 6 de octubre de 1987

Dear Professor Peláez,

Thank you for your letter dated 20 September. It is kind of you to invite me contribute to the volume comemorating the centenary of the birth of Prof. Fernando Valls Taberner.

Would a short paper on the so-called Assisses of Jerusalem be suitable? There survive from the thirteen century a group of legal treatises dealing with the feudal customs of the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem, and I have some comments to make on the authorship of one of these treatises and its relationship to the other texts which comprise this corpus. The title of my paper will be: “The Livre of Geoffrey Le Tor and the Assises of Jerusalem”.

Please let me know if a contribution on this theme would be acceptable. I would have no difficulty in completing my typescript by the beginning of March.

Yours sincerely,

Peter W. Edbury (firmado y rubricado)
