Francis Ysidro Edgeworth ( 1845-1926 )

Economista irlands. Estudi Lenguas antiguas y modernas en el Trinity College de Dubln. Saba alemn, espaol, francs e italiano. Posteriormente estudia leyes en Oxford. Parece ser que estudi matemticas por su cuenta, sin atender clases formales. En 1880 est dando clases de lgica. Finalmente, en 1888, fue nombrado profesor de Economa Poltica en el King's College de Londres.

Francis Ysidro EdgeworthCasi todos sus escritos estn dirigidos a economistas. Son ensayos sobre impuestos, los precios en el monopolio y el duopolio, teora pura del comercio internacional y teora de los nmeros ndice. Su obra "Psquica Matemtica" (1881) es una aplicacin cuantitativa de la tica del utilitarismo a la vida econmica. Su uso de las curvas de indiferencia fue aceptada muy lentamente y la del "ncleo" de una economa de intercambio solo ha conseguido atraer la atencin muy recientemente como resultado de los desarrollos de la teora de juegos. De hecho muchas de sus ideas estn siendo redescubiertas en la actualidad.
