Resumen

El siguiente trabajo es un abordaje empírico sobre la relación que existe entre la “clase intelectual” y las formas productivas de un país. Asimismo, intentaremos demostrar que a mayor cantidad de producción de bienes y servicios mayor es el aumento de carreras humanísticas (entre ellas el Turismo) y menor las técnico productivas. Esto sugiere, siguiendo a Veblen, un vínculo estrecho entre la producción de excedentes y la conformación de una “clase ociosa”. Intentaremos cruzar las hipótesis que se desprenden del libro de Veblen sobre la clase ociosa, con datos empíricos estadísticos en diferentes carreras universitarias.

Abstract

The present paper explores empirically the relationship between the scholars and the productive forms of a country. Furthermore, we will demonstrate that inasmuch as goods and services circulate in an economy, much interest rises for humanistic careers than techno-productive ones. Following Veblen this happens because there is a bridge between the production of surplus and the inception of a leisure class in societies. We will test the hypothesis in the Veblen’s text with empirical information and dataset from diverse academic careers.
