William Henry Beveridge (1879-1963)

Sir William Henry Beveridge, Barón de Tuggal fue un economista inglés nacido en Rangpur, Bangladesh. 

Alumno de Charterhouse y del Balliol College (Oxford), se interesó por las Ciencias Sociales y, en particular por los problemas del paro. Desempeñó los cargos de subsecretario de la Cámara de Comercio (1908-16), director de la Escuela de Economía y Ciencia Política de Londres (1919-37), decano del University College, Oxford (1937-45) y miembro del Parlamento por el Partido Liberal (1944-45).

Ennoblecido en 1919, fue creado barón en 1946. En su calidad de presidente del Comité Interministerial de Seguros Sociales formuló el plan de seguro social «desde la cuna hasta la tumba» que lleva su nombre. Falleció en Oxford.
